To obtain the license, you have to complete a quest chain found in the Deep.As of version 0.9.9, the Bactrian is locked behind the City-Ship License.Job board mission targets and defense fleets are a reliable way of encountering this ship. Though pirates do have a chance of flying the Bactrian, their large crews make them difficult to capture. The drawbacks to this vessel are its high cost, large target profile, and the fact that it is locked behind a lengthy mission string. This ship can be a cruiser analogue, a carrier, a heavy cargo ship, or a mixture of all three. The Bactrian has enough crew, cargo room, outfit space, and fighter bays to fill virtually any function the player wishes it to do. If the Mule is the ship that can do everything but can't do anything particularly well, the Bactrian is its superior in every way. These are the standard outfits initially equipped on each Bactrian. The Bactrian can be purchased at the following ports: Naturally, this versatility also makes it extremely expensive, and the Bactrian is not normally for sale to ordinary citizens who have not been vetted by the local government of the Deep. It is not only a freighter, but a carrier, and a capable warship either at short range or at a distance. The Lionheart Bactrian is the last of the great city-ships, a design hearkening back to the early days of space colonization when a long-distance vessel needed to be a self-contained world, able to survive at times for weeks without encountering an inhabited planet.
